Child Safe Window Treatments

Our Child Safety Policy

A core value at CellularWindowShades.com is to provide our clients with the very best value in high-quality window coverings. We do this by working with our clients to understand their needs, lifestyles, and budgets.

Child and pet safety are primary considerations in all of our recommendations, as well as in our manufacturing standards. We do, and we will continue to, manufacture products that are in compliance with current Child Safety Standards. Our team always offers products that are child safe and meet these standards. Everyone on the team makes sure our clients are aware that cordless products are the best option when Child Safety is a concern.

Remember that prevention begins with awareness:

  • Position cribs, beds, playpens, and other furniture away from windows.
  • Check your current window coverings for exposed or dangling cords. Free hanging cords should be secured with a proper cord cleat to keep cords out of reach of children and pets.
  • If possible, replace corded window coverings with a cordless or motorized option.
  • Permanently anchor continuous-loop window fashion cords.

Should I replace my existing treatments?

If you have children or pets in your home and have window treatments with exposed strings, we highly recommend that you replace your shades with a safer alternative. This might not be financially feasible for everyone. If you can’t replace these window treatments, make them safer by adding cord cleats (for standard pull-cord shades) or anchors (for continuous cord loop shades).

Cord cleat

Improve child safety in your home with the use of cord cleats. All excess cord needs to be wound around the cleat to help prevent potential entanglement.

Cord loop anchor (a.k.a. P-Clip)

A p-clip is used to anchor the bottom of a continuous cord loop to the window frame or wall. This eliminates the hazard of a free-hanging cord.

Other safety measures to take

If you have a nursery or child’s bedroom, place the bed or crib away from the windows, even if the shades are cordless. You should always prevent access to cellular shade cords by keeping your furniture away from your home’s windows. If your existing window treatments have cords, be sure to secure them.
